A question for my tech-savvy friends

Dear Friends,

How do I transfer my photos from the old computer (an almost 10-y.o. PC) to the new one? The old one is so old that the external hard drive we bought isn't compatible. Thanks in advance for your help!

love,
Clementine

Do you have a working CD drive in your old computer? If so, the simplest solution, though it could be time consuming, is to burn them all to discs, then just copy them off through your new PC and save them on the external drive that way.

If not, try an external storage SITE like www.myfabrik.com where you can just upload your files and then download them again. Check it out completely before you do anything permanent but I think it's easy enough to do there. I have an account but haven't used it much.

Cd drive does not burn CD's. But the cyber storage sounds great!!!

OR.
is there a USB port on the old pc?

If so, buy a Flash stick ($30) and just use it as a removable drive.

That's true, I forgot about that - "thumb drives" like J suggests are a good idea too.

I know the old PC has at least one USB port unless they are non-functional for some reason.

take out the old hard drive
pop it in the new computer
that's what I'd do. it's fast, it's easy
