These are my v. favorite apples--they're a MacIntosh/Red Delicious cross. Interestingly, I don't like Macs or Delicious apples at all, but I live for Spencers.
Word! I don't think I've ever had a Spencer. I found a kind I hadn't had before called Honey Crisp I think. They are super good. Nice, crisp, white fruit, the outside looks a lot like your Spencers actually.
Other than these, my new discovery, I love Fujis and Braeburns.
I'm not picky for making pies though, I've probably made apple pies from 10 different kinds of apples. Usually whatever kind they have in those big "fresh from the orchard" bags at the grocery store. :)
i have never even heard of this apple, but now I will look. This is the time of year when I eat 4 apples a day. and then can't eat any more apples until next fall. apple attack!
By far, Macouns win hands down for me. I went through a Spencer phase when I was about 10 yrs old, but I don't usually see them for sale anymore...very sadly they don't sell either in the UK where I'm living right now!

I agree--honey crisps are awesome, too!

Honey Crisp, Fuji, Gala, Gravenstein, and banana apples of my youth.
Macs, Cortland, and Braeburn. Also Gala and Granny Smith. I want to try these Spencers, though!
Northern Spy is good too.
