Middlesex

Has anyone read Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex? I'm trying to decide if it's worth my time.

No, I haven't because I'm a reading loser. I finally just finished Bastard Out of Carolina which I've wanted to read for years and have had since like Christmas of 2004.

I have. It was okay. I didn't love it, didn't hate it.

I was just given a copy of it, and I was pretty psyched because I thought it was a copy of The Essex, the true story that inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. After reading the first sentence of Middlesex:

"I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, michigan, in August of 1974."

I realized that I had got my Massachusetts counties mixed up. But, in my defense, Middlesex has a boat on the cover!

I suppose I'll read it just the same.
