3 questions

Question 1: Have you ever been visited by a city code enforcement officer? We had one out here on Friday going "door to door, floor to floor" to check for code violations on our street (good news: we passed). Is this a poor neighborhood thing or do they visit the rich folks too?

Question 2: Is there some organic way to keep Clary B. out of our vegetable garden? We've put up a little fence and strung bird netting across the garden, but sometimes she breaks through it. You know how citrus peel repels cats? Well, is there something similar that repels dogs?

Question 3: What funny, fluffy books on tape would you bring on a 10-hour road trip? We're looking for recommendations for our late May getaway.

Question 1 - no, but maybe that's because Canada has different rules?

Question 2 - there are citronella pellets you can buy (pet store) and spread around. You have to replace them after it rains, but if you do it a few times, maybe Miss Clary won't be so interested in the garden!

Question 3 - if you haven't read/heard it, "Can You Keep A Secret" by Sophie Kinsella. I nearly snorted tea out my nose I was laughing so hard, but trying to be quiet about it (I was alone at a restaurant). Also, "The Undomestic Goddess" by the same author is pretty funny. I know you've already read Shopaholic (have you read them all?)
"Sushi for Beginners" was pretty good (can't remember the author). And "The Devil Wears Prada" is supposed to be good - I just haven't gotten it yet.

Hope this helps.

Okay, the "word verification"? - xlqzjavt Are they suddenly longer, or is it just me?

Is David Sedaris on tape? If he is, check it out (if you haven't already) - you guys will LOVE.

I can only answer question 3, with any of the Harry Potter books...I hear they are fantastic on tape.

You guys, we totally have ESPN (that's my brother's version of ESP, doncha know). Missscarlet, I've read all of David Sedaris' books, but I plan to request his books on tape from the library. J., Pet and I love HP; I think we've heard one or two books on tape, but I don't remember (mind like a sieve, I swear). I'll check with her and place a request for some of those books. And Canada, I've read all of Sophie Kinsella's books, but I was thinking of ordering the books you mentioned. We heard all of the Shopaholic books on tape and liked them a lot. Thanks, y'all--your suggestions are great.

PS--I'll check out the citronella thing, too, C. Thanks for the tip!

You're welcome :)

Now see, I was going to recommend the HP books, too, but I thought that they might be too fantasy for you! (I remember our discussion while waiting for that damn subway!)

I'm so not a fantasy fan (though, my wife is, and I tease her about it. Yes, I'm mean) but HP is one of my favorite book series ever.

Even better than the Baby Sitters Club :)

Oh my god J., THE BABYSITTERS CLUB! I LOVE those books.

Also, I really do love HP, but I'm not sure why. I hate fantasy, but those books are really engaging. Hey, they got someone I know off cocaine; that says a lot!
